Expectant parents get a glimpse of parenthood

Johannesburg - Welcoming a little bundle of joy is a magical journey filled with excitement and wonder. Understanding the importance of knowledge and support during this transformative time, Netcare Sunward Park Hospital recently rolled out the red carpet for expectant parents, hosting an educational event sharing helpful information and special tips for a confident and joyful pregnancy.

Reflecting on a day of interesting discussions and healthy interaction, Greg Mokgoatlheng, the general manager at Netcare Sunward Park, said: “It was an immersive crash course in all things baby-related with 117 expecting mothers-to-be and their partners joining us to listen, learn and interact.”

The event featured an array of healthcare experts, including gynaecologists Dr Relebogile Sekele and Dr John Mwinyoglee and paediatrician Dr Roselina Ntombifuthi Mahlase, who shared essential insights from pregnancy to parenthood.

Nursing services manager, Gwen Naidoo offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into hospital operations, while Lauren Felicity from Lancet Laboratories simplified complex lab tests during pregnancy.

Dr Sekele's talk resonated with the audience as she emphasised the dual care needed for both mom and baby during pregnancy. “We're here to ensure both thrive on this incredible journey,” she affirmed.

Beyond lectures, attendees enjoyed hands-on experiences, including CPR and choking training by Netcare 911, and a vibrant exhibition covering topics from dietary tips to physiotherapy options for mothers and babies.

Reflecting on the hospital's dedication to person centred health and care, Mokgoatlheng concluded, “We're here to support our patients every step of the way.”

As the soon-to-be parents departed, brimming with excitement and newfound knowledge, they were confident that they could tackle whatever parenthood threw their way.
